Making a change is difficult- I know. When I first realized that I *needed* to make a monumental change in my life, I had no idea where to start. Actually, when I realized that I had no idea where to start, I decided to curl up and let depression win for a couple more months. It happens, but it’s time to break that pattern.Knowing where to start when you so desperately need to shed the cocoon (yes, your cocoon, you lovely baby butterfly you) is half the battle. Time to spread your wings, mariposa, because the 5 Reiki principles are your easy-to-follow guide to making that change!
But First- a Mini Reiki Intro
So why are we bringing up Reiki principles and how the heck do they relate to everyone’s life, right?? Essentially Reiki is the practice of using your energy to heal the energy of another. Reiki practitioners are amazing light workers and the concept of vibrational healing is not a new one.

Practicing reiki on a daily basis is actually a major form of self-care and some people, like Nic at The Dark Pixie Astrology, swear by it! The principles of Reiki open the door to having that healing and balancing energy enter into every single day of your life! And when you have that kind of energy in your life, that energy you’re putting out is returned in the form of abundance and opportunities!
1. Just for today, I will not worry
Stop. Take a deep breath. Let that shit go. And don’t worry about it!The first principle of Reiki addresses the need to be present in what is happening right now- not tomorrow. This doesn’t mean blow off the important things you have going on today. It simply means to take one thing at a time, focus on what’s in front of you right now, and worry about the other stuff when it’s time for it.
2. Just for today, I will not be angry
That’s is just in addition to the not worrying. Anger clouds our judgement and overall it takes *way* more energy to be angry than it does to accept and move on. Today, let go of the things that don’t deserve your time and energy. That person cut you off- so what? You’re still going to get to where you’re going. So your SO/friend did something ridiculous- so what? Why focus on that? Let it all go today! A good rule of thumb is- if you’re not going to be grumpy about it in one hour, then don’t be grumpy about it now.
3. Just for today, I will be grateful
Practicing gratitude is arguably one of the only ways to truly appreciate all that you have. While I suggest writing out what you’re grateful for everyday (I like writing it with my daily intentions), you don’t necessarily have to. Sometimes all it takes is taking a 15 second break from what you’re doing and listing out a couple things you’re grateful for in your head. When you’re being present today, take a look at the things around you and give thanks for all that you have. Some days all I can think about is how grateful I am for my little family, but other days I’m just grateful for a pot of coffee and naps.
4. Just for today, I will do my work honestly
This is one of my favorite rules to live by in general and something that I try to remind myself with daily. Think about this principle like this: “Just for today, I will do my thang authentically”- lol the 2018 version right there. Whatever you approach today (driving, working, talking, working out, etc) perform that task wholeheartedly. Don’t half-ass anything! You know that if you only put half the effort into your work, it’s not going to turn out the way you want it. This applies to all areas of your life. Be present in the way you go about your day — honor thy throat and heart chakra while you do it!
5. Just for today, I will be kind to all living things
Warning: this applies to all animals, plants, and humans, no matter how irritating they are. The way we treat others is a reflection of how we treat ourselves- yeah, think about that the next time you’re judging someone. When you approach things today, send them unconditional love- even if you don’t think they necessarily deserve it. A single act of kindness can go a long way and even if all you do is make awkward eye contact and smile at people today, that could cause them to go on to do that to others. Come on- do I really need to explain why it’s awesome to share some joy?!

I know I deserve an Abundant Life!
Say it again. Say it over and over until you start to believe it- or you’re concerned someone might call for aide. You deserve an abundant life. You deserve to have the 5 basic principles of reiki in your life. You don’t have to believe in energy healing to recognize that these principles hold ground in any kind of abundant happy life. It’s time you embraced them!Now say this with me:
I allow abundance and happiness to flow freely into my life!
Now, just for today: practice these principles of Reiki and start knocking down those abundance blockers!
